Indian telecoms are eyeing Open RAN as a viable method to cut network-related costs and customise as they upgrade their networks to 5G technology. Open RAN architecture has thrown opportunities for Indian software, equipment makers and system integrators to capture a piece of the growing global 5G market. With Open RAN, telecom players now have flexibility to use solutions from multiple vendors. They are looking beyond traditional vendors to bring in innovation through Open RAN and cut dependence on traditional vendors. With the induction of 5G, companies now will likely have to put up with a high number of base stations to have a deep coverage, leaving little scope for them to save any cost on that front. The role of virtualized, open networks will then simplify automation by providing validated stack templates. These will be automated to be secure, reliable, maintained, and make Open RAN easier and more cost-effective to deploy and maintain parallel wireless networks.
